First official appointment today - and doctor said Baby Burton is WAY too far along to be 11 weeks; looks to be much closer to 13. And that means that this mama is officially out of her first trimester! He pushed my due date up to December 18th. God-willing, I will be home and relaxing with my new little family on Christmas morning... possibly even up late/early enough with a restless newborn to greet Santa with his milk & cookies. :) I can't even be mad about that.

WHOA. I'm already out of my first trimester?! How did that go so quickly?

The ultrasound today was so cool. We saw and heard the little heartbeat, saw the baby kick and move and roll around... we even saw the little fingers! (Well, I pretended to see, but I really had no idea what I was looking at. Just call me Rachel.)

I really love Dr. Taggart - such a kind, funny guy. I've never laughed so hard during such an uncomfortable, nerve-racking situation. It was thoroughly confusing, and I didn't mind one bit! I was so nervous; that poor baby could probably TASTE my anxiety. I wonder if the fear ever goes away - I didn't completely relax until I saw how big the baby had gotten, accompanied by the comforting flutter of the trusty heartbeat in it's little chest.

Overheard during the ultrasound:
Me, shrieking: "Is that a leg?!"

Dr. T: "No, that's actually his very large kickstand."

Me: "WHAT??"

Dr. T laughs hysterically.

Me: "Ok, ok. So it's a leg. Does everything else look good - does the baby look... normal?"

Dr. T: "Well, it has a head. That's a good start."

This is going to be a long 6 months :)
