Porter: Your Sixteenth Week

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

This morning, we woke up to a surprise.

You sleep on your stomach (before The Mommypolice sound their alarms, I just have to say: we've done our research, we've talked about it extensively with multiple outside sources, and we stand behind our decision 100%) and one morning, I woke up to you cooing in confusion. I snuck in, unsure that you were actually awake. Well, you were... but you were flat on your back and completely confused. You were looking at the ceiling, your hands, the crib railing - everything around you - from your new view. When you saw me, you got excited - finally! Something familiar - and I got you up for the day. Your back was warm, so you'd done it sometime in the middle of the night and had stayed alseep through the whole thing.

You're started to rub your hands together, playing with your fingers. I love it, you're so thoughtful... you just stare at your hands in wonder and try to figure out what's happening. Am I moving these things? Is mommy? WHAT IS HAPPENING.

Ok. Confession. I found something that freaks you out, and I do it repeatedly. It was an accident at first, until it wasn't. Until I started doing it just to watch you do your little freak out/jig. You don't cry or get upset, so I'm not sure it freaks you out... but your eyes widen as big as saucers and you start dancing around and pumping your arms. It's. So. Funny. I can't stop. Your dad gets so mad at me (I think he thinks I'm going to give you a heart attack) and your Auntie Jessica got mad at first, until she saw your reaction, now she makes me do it all the time. I'm laughing just thinking about it.

You had one bad night of sleep this week. I think you were having tummy troubles... but it passed quickly after we gave you some molasses water. Oh man, you sucked that stuff down like candy, which got me excited... pretty soon, we get to give you some solids! I can't wait to see your face as you get your first taste of avocado or sweet potato!

There's a photo below of you with Tyson and Roger, during your very first Daffodil Parade... we got rained out, but you didn't mind at all. You're such a great sport (clearly, by the green knit turban Tyson made you wear for the photo below).
